Difference between Millennials and Generation Z

A Millennial is a person reaching young adulthood around the year 2000. Millennial characteristics vary by region, depending on social and economic conditions. However, the generation is generally marked by an increased use and familiarity with communications, media, and digital technologies. Generation Z (also known as Post-Millennials or the iGeneration) is the demographic cohort following the Millennials. A significant aspect of this generation is the widespread usage of the Internet from a young age. Members of Generation Z are typically thought of as being comfortable with technology, and interacting on social media websites for a significant portion of their socializing.

The differences between the two generations are as follows

  • Gen Z is more practical; more realistic that opportunities are not boundless and that we need to work on mastering our skills and working hard.
  • Gen Z is cautious; we take less risks and seek more stability and security.
  • Gen Z is more money cautious; them DEBTS
  • Gen Z is more face-to-face; we overcompensate on interpersonal skills
  • Gen Z is more global; in our thinking, interaction, and relatability.
  • Gen Z is big on individuality; We were born social. We seek uniqueness in the brands we do business with, future employers, and our leaders.
  • Gen Z is more tech dependent; we are the true digital natives, we grew up on touch-screens, social media, and apps.
  • Gen Z is less parented; FREEDOM, free to make our own choices and free to do our own thing.
  • Gen Z is full of early starters; more teens between the ages of 16 and 18 will go straight into the work force, we opt out of the traditional route of higher education and chose to finish school online if at all.
  • Gen Z is more disruptive; a new breed of activists, gamers, and entrepreneurs.
  • Gen Z are multitasker; in school, they will create a document on their school computer, do research on their phone or tablet, while taking notes on a notepad, then finish in front of the TV with a laptop, while face-timing a friend. They shift from work and play, real and virtual in short intense spurts. Imagine how they will redefine the workplace with this type of workflow.
  • Gen Z is less focused; we live in a world of continuous updates, we process information faster than other generations. We have low attention spans.
  • Gen Z is more entrepreneurial; Generation Z desires more independent work environments. As a matter of fact, 72% of teens say they want to start a business someday.
